The Zen of Travel Revisited
I've written before about the Zen of Travel. Having lived in Ecuador and Zambia and NYC, I learned long ago not to stress out when it comes to travel. Things happen, flights get canceled, goats throw themselves in front under the wheels of buses, roads wash out, and no amount of fussing will make it any better.Yesterday morning the phone woke me. A representative from Continental Airlines informed me that my flight the next day (30 hours later!) was canceled and instead they wanted to transport me to from Hartford, CT to Newark, NJ by bus so that I can get a flight to Greensboro, NC. The ride usually takes three hours.
I was groggy; I said sure, then I went back to sleep. Only later in the day did I realize what happened. I called and confirmed. Weird. So this morning I got to the airport at 8:30 AM for my bus. After a 6 hour ride in traffic, I arrived only to find out my flight was canceled and the next flight will not be available until Saturday (the day after my show in Greensboro).
Not willing to give up, I called Greyhound Bus and booked a seat leaving NYC tonight and arriving in Greensboro about 13 hours later. So I will be a little rumpled when I get there. I'll sleep during the day and be ready for my 5:00 PM tech rehearsal.
Now I sit in the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square about to have a nice quiet Japanese dinner as I page through my People magazine (that features me on page 80 tee hee) and then I get ready a long ride down South.
What else can go wrong....

Awesome! Who's on the cover so I can be sure and buy the correct one?
You are such a dedicated servant. I admire that and will be praying for you...or maybe I'll just call and leave you another weird message! ;)
love and grace,
pam
Um, monkeys could fly out of your shoes?
I've learned that it's best not to say "What else can go wrong?"
Congrats on the People article...I'll look for it, and buy it secretly and ask for it to be wrapped in brown paper...
What else can go wrong? Well, better not ask for it? There's a saying that goes "Ropa inte hej förrän du är över bäcken" and knowing me you know I will be worried about you riding a bus through all that snow. Not that I know if the snow is where you are or if you're already there when I write this but still ..
Pam, Anna Nicole Smith is on the cover, but then her image is on the cover of most magazines this week. Thanks for the crazy voicemail.
Yes, I know I shouldn't jinx my travels by asking what else can go wrong. I am warm and can sleep and have my trusty PDA so I can still blog. phew.
noel, no clue. most of my friends know I am a lazy, whiney baby who needs hsi sleep and time alone and fancy vegan meals.
Hmmmmm. Puts my 20 minute hold-up on the freeway into perspective!
Damn! My school doesn't have the right issue! It has February 19th's issue. Peterson, if you have access to a scanner, please post a picture of that page. 'Cause I just can't find it, and if I can't find it... well... I'll just be really bummed!
Peace and *hearts*,
Elliot
